In late 1914, to avoid friendly fire, the Royal Flying Corps adopted the French Armée de l'Air roundels for its aircraft. Since both national flags shared the same red, white and blue, the RFC reversed the colours of the French cockade. Pale Roundel Blue was introduced during the 1960s for the RAF's white anti-flash schemes, designed to reflect some of the thermal radiation from a nuclear explosion. It pairs beautifully with charcoal accents, clean whites and matte black hardware.
